Sound familiar?

Most of these begin with how you breathe

We usually treat the symptom and never look at the cause. If any of these describe you, it is worth testing your breathing.

You are under stress and cannot switch off
You are tired and drained all day
You sleep badly, or cannot get to sleep
Anxiety and panic come easily
Your nose is constantly blocked
You think you breathe incorrectly
You snore
You are very noisy in your sleep
You sleep with your mouth open
You are startled easily
Before and after

What actually changes

These are the changes students notice first. For most people they begin within seven to ten days.

Stress and anxiety → Calm
BeforeHead in your hands, permanently worried, permanently on edge.
AfterAble to take a deep breath and sit still. Settled.
Insomnia → Real sleep
BeforeDark circles, half the night on your phone, unable to drop off.
AfterAsleep quickly after the exercises, awake in the morning genuinely rested.
Poor focus → A sharp mind
BeforeSat in front of the work, mind drifting, unable to hold on to anything.
AfterAttention that holds long enough to finish the job.
Fatigue → Energy
BeforeFlat, head propped on one hand, worn out by the middle of the day.
AfterSteady energy right through the day, and a clear head with it.
Emotional volatility → Steadiness
BeforeIsolated, frustrated, emotions running the show.
AfterConfident, balanced, hard to knock off course.
Breathing problems → Correct breathing
BeforeShort of breath, blocked nose, mouth breathing, easily panicked.
AfterThrough the nose, from the diaphragm, silent and even.

Results differ from person to person. These are the changes the course works towards, not a medical guarantee.

The method

What is the Buteyko Method?

Discovered by Soviet physician Konstantin Buteyko over three decades of research. The core idea is simple: most of us breathe too much and too fast. Correct that, and the body recovers on its own.

01

Through the nose

Nasal breathing generates nitric oxide in the sinuses, which dilates blood vessels and warms, filters and humidifies the air. Mouth breathing loses all of it.

02

From the diaphragm

The diaphragm is the primary breathing muscle. Breathing from it rather than the chest massages the internal organs and releases neck and shoulder tension.

03

In rhythm

Six breaths a minute, no pause between in and out, and silent. This rhythm moves the nervous system into its recovery state.

Carbon dioxide is not the enemy. Oxygen and carbon dioxide must be in balance.

Test your breathing right now

The Control Pause is the core measurement of the Buteyko Method. It takes about a minute.

  1. 1Sit calmly and take two or three normal breaths
  2. 2Take an ordinary breath in, and let it out naturally
  3. 3Pinch your nose gently and start the timer
  4. 4Stop at the first definite urge to breathe — never force it

This is a self-assessment guide, not a medical diagnosis. If you have a health condition, please speak with your doctor.

The four-hour course

What the course covers

International Buteyko practice puts the core course at roughly four hours. Theory and practice run side by side throughout.

Day1

The theory of breathing

Why over-breathing harms you. What carbon dioxide does, how nose and mouth differ, and Buteyko's discovery.

Day2

Nasal nerve exercises

The exercises that open a blocked nose, and how nitric oxide is produced and restored.

Day3

Diaphragm muscle exercises

Breathing from the diaphragm rather than the chest — 360° rib expansion, with the shoulders staying still.

Day4

Tongue and mouth posture

Correct tongue position, palate development and the habit of keeping the mouth closed — the part that shapes a child's jaw and face.

Day5

Lung expansion exercises

Using your full lung capacity and correcting the depth of each breath.

Day6

Theory and practice together

You practise throughout and get corrected on the spot, and your Control Pause is measured.

After the course you will:

Breathe correctly
Concentrate for longer
Manage anxiety and stress
Sleep more deeply

Munkhsaikhan Bayarmagnai

Buteyko breathing instructor and consultant

I lived with anxiety for years. For two years I was afraid of going live on television, and my hands sweated constantly. I saw doctors. I tried to fix it myself.

Changing how I breathed changed everything — not only the anxiety, but my sleep, my concentration, and even the shape of my face.

So I studied the method formally and earned my certification from Buteyko Clinic International in Ireland. Now I teach it here in Mongolia.
